The Belgrade Fortress (Београдска тврђава – Beogradska tvrđava) is built at the concurrence of the Sava and Danube rivers right in the center of Belgrade. It is thought to be built in the second century AD. and like most fortresses its purpose is to protect the city from potential attacks and battles. It has served for that purpose and been a sign of power for centuries; it has also been modified according to the invaders. The fortress can tell the history of Belgrade and more or less Serbia until recent times. Today, it is world heritage, part of a history that is almost unrecognizable today.
